Wildflower Walk
February 22, 2014: Life slowed down beautifully this Saturday morning while we meandered down the Sycamore Loop trail with naturalist, author, and wildflower expert Bob Allen. Around every curve new discoveries were made-wildflowers such as the Padre’s Shooting Star, CA Buttercup, Deerweed, School Bells, Coastal Paintbrush, Western Lady’s Mantle, Pacific Sanicle, and Blue-eyed Grass. We learned how to tell the Engelmann from Coast Live Oak, and Poison Oak from Blackberry. From tarantula burrows to the life of our local native beetles, this walk brought us into a new world of colorful plant mosaics, native animal lives, the rich scent of leaves, and the wonder found in tree canopies. All this and more awakened our senses to the natural side of life and the beauty the wildland openly shares.
