Wilderness Skills Adventure

July 11, 2015: Families ventured out this past Saturday to improve their outdoor skills and family bonds. Participants spent the morning working together to build shelters from natural materials and learn orienteering methods such as how to make a compass from a magnet and a paperclip. Everyone learned the importance of staying on the trails to avoid dangers such as ticks, poison oak and getting lost in the wilderness. Each person created a personalized first aid kit to take with them on their next outdoor adventure. This fun family day concluded with meeting Rosy, The Reserve’s Rosy boa, while learning the characteristics of venomous vs. nonvenomous snakes of Orange County.
