More Mushrooms!!
February 10, 2013: Recent rains have made conditions optimal for the “fruiting” of mushrooms on The Reserve, according to Gregg Miller, The Reserve’s volunteer mushroom walk leader. On the February 10 Mushroom Walk patrons were treated to a mushroom cornucopia of at least fifteen different varieties within the Fungi kingdom. Mushroom mycelia intertwine with the root hairs of trees and plants, and are a key component in plant growth and development. Gregg also emphasized the importance of knowing how to identify species of mushrooms and recommend that enthusiasts visit local Mycological societies. If you missed this event, join us on February 24, for our final mushroom walk of the year. Many thanks to Gregg Miller for leading our mushroom walks.
