If Dead Trees Could Talk Walk

September 21, 2013 – During a warm evening, on this last day of summer, volunteer naturalist Gillian Martin led an interpretive exploration along Gato Trail.  She helped us understand the ecology of the area and especially the importance of retaining dead and dying trees for birds and other wildlife that depend on them.   She explained how dead trees can live on as excellent natural habitats for all types of organisms.   Near the end of the program, while sitting under the 500 year old Mother Oak as the sky darkened, we paused to reflect on what this majestic tree would say if she could talk.   Her voice was loving, courageous, instructive and encouraging.  Let us all remember to delight in the beauty around us and to be a gentle friend to all living things.
