Bird Language Workshop

May 15, 2013: Guest speaker Jodi Levine, founder of Earthroots Field School taught the Bird Language workshop. Our guests learned how indigenous peoples keep themselves and their family’s safe from unseen people or predators by learning about bird behaviors or “language.”  How birds react in their different vocalizations and actions can tell us so much about what is happening in our environment. Patrons spent part of the evening indoors, learning the basics of “bird language” and part of the event in a “sit or standing spot” quietly listening to and observing birds and nature around them.  It was a very active evening with a Cooper’s hawk causing a ruckus and upsetting smaller birds like towhee. Noticing how we move through our environment affecting other creatures can help us become more in touch with Mother Nature.  Thank you to Jodi Levine, Evan Brown and Daniel Francis for a wonderful lesson.  We would also like to thank Reserve volunteers: Pat Bearden and Linda Ray for their assistance helping throughout the event.
