CA Native Plant Society field trip

CA Native Plant Society field tripApril 21, 2013:  On Sunday, nineteen people explored the Conservancy on a California Native Plant Society field trip.  On the North Ridge Trail we saw flowers such as the Mariposa Lily, Wild Hyacinth, Paintbrush, and Rosinweed.  The Sages were in bloom and the Lemonadeberry plants had plump fruit filling their branches.  Dodder was just starting to cover the CA Buckwheat.  We headed down to Shady Canyon and the Sycamore Loop trails where we continued to be treated with nature’s beautiful wildflowers – Blue-eyed Grass, CA Buttercup, Hillside Hedge Nettle, Bush Monkeyflower, Fiesta Flower, just to name a few.  We also saw some of the more uncommon plant species such as the Engelmann Oak and CA Juniper.  We finished the day by visiting the Mother Oak; a Coast Live Oak said to be 500 years old.  It was a glorious way to start out the day on this Earth Week Sunday 2013.
