North American Butterfly Association Butterfly Walk

April 26, 2014: Do you ever feel like staying home on a cool morning after the rain? Well, so do butterflies! One single Painted Lady butterfly showed up for our Butterfly Walk this past weekend. Luckily, there was a lot more to see on the trails on this perfect morning after the rain. Nature enthusiasts didn’t let the lack of butterflies get them down. In fact it led to the opportunity for everyone to share their knowledge of birds, plants and wildflowers that take home on The Reserve. We spotted plants like Witches Hair, Dudleya and Buckwheat that some of our resident butterflies like the Brown Elephant, Sonora Blue and Funereal Duskywing love to feed on. The walk concluded at the Mother Oak, our 500 year-old Coast Live Oak tree, that I’m sure has seen many butterflies in her days on The Reserve.
